Community or Enterprise: an honest answer

Many Odoo partners earn a share of Enterprise license sales and tend to recommend accordingly. We have no such incentive, so the decision rests on a few concrete questions.

  • Required apps: some features such as Studio or Helpdesk are Enterprise-only, much of the rest is covered by Community
  • User count: Enterprise is licensed per user, so growing teams change the math
  • Customization needs: Community can be extended freely but requires developer capacity
  • Hosting: Odoo.sh and Odoo Online require Enterprise, while we run self-hosted Community instances on EU servers

Few Odoo projects start on a green field. Typical starting points are sprawling spreadsheet landscapes, Lexware or Sage in accounting, and in-house tools whose original developer left years ago.

What does Odoo consulting cost at NeuralMedic?
The initial call is free. After that we work with transparent day rates or fixed-price packages, with an architecture day starting at EUR 2,500. You receive a written quote before each step.
Do you recommend Community or Enterprise?
It depends on required apps, user count, customization needs and hosting. Since we receive no commission on Enterprise licenses, our recommendation is edition-neutral and documented in writing, including multi-year cost implications.
Do you work remotely across the DACH region?
Yes. Workshops and consulting run well over video, which we do regularly for companies in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Within Bavaria we can be on site at short notice.
How long does a typical Odoo rollout take?
Small and mid-sized companies often plan for two to four months to go-live, depending on module scope, data quality and internal capacity. Complex manufacturing scenarios or large migrations can take longer. The milestone plan from the consulting phase makes the timeline concrete for your project.
Can you migrate data from our legacy system?
Yes, that is the standard case. We regularly migrate from spreadsheet landscapes, Lexware, Sage and outdated in-house tools. Migration is scripted with test runs, so you can verify the result before switching over.
What are the hosting options?
EU servers are our default. You can self-host Odoo, have NeuralMedic operate it on managed infrastructure, or use Odoo.sh with an Enterprise subscription. The right choice depends on your IT capacity and compliance requirements.
Do you build custom modules and adjustments?
Yes. Our developers write their own Odoo modules, some of which are published in the official Odoo App Store. We build customizations so that future version upgrades remain possible.
How do you differ from typical Odoo partners?
Typical partners earn commissions on Enterprise license sales; that incentive does not exist here. In addition, the people advising you write Odoo modules themselves, which makes feasibility calls and effort estimates more reliable.
Who supports us after go-live?
We can stay on board with a support retainer for questions and incidents, plus ongoing development such as new modules or version upgrades. Many clients start lean and expand their system step by step.
